The Harvard Ski Team, which celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2009, is one of the oldest collegiate ski teams in the United States. We race in the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association and compete against Dartmouth, Middlebury, Bates, Williams, Bowdoin, the University of Vermont, and the other NCAA Division I teams from across the Northeast. We have a diverse set of athletes who come from as close to us as suburban Boston and as far away as Minnesota, Colorado, Montana, and Alaska. Most of our current athletes were Junior Olympians. In 2011, Chris Stock and Jen Rolfes earned All-American status at the Junior Olympics. We have also been home to NCAA qualifiers, including most recently Alena Tofte (2011). Anna McLoon (Class of 2004) was a 4-time NCAA qualifier and winner of the women’s classic titles at both the 2003 and 2004 University of Vermont winter carnivals.
Our program seeks to balance athletic achievement with academic excellence. Harvard gives its athletes the opportunity to compete at the highest levels of collegiate skiing while also having access to the unique academic experiences offered by one of the country’s premier institutions of higher learning. At the conclusion of last season, many of our skiers were recognized as NCAA Academic All-Americans. In addition, the university enjoys a close proximity to the city of Boston and its wide array of cultural opportunities.
Our principal training venue during ski season is the Weston Ski Track, which is located fifteen minutes from our campus. Weston’s artificial snow-making assures us the earliest consistent access to snow in New England and training opportunities until March. We also take frequent trips well beyond the Boston area for dry-land training and skiing.
